Why does a Lifetime server need a ZapX Pass? What the Pass pays for, what it really costs, and why we still recommend the move.
Ever since we started offering Lifetime customers the move to ZapX, one question keeps coming up, in tickets, on Reddit and on Discord: “I paid for my server once. Why should I now pay for a Pass every month?”
It's a fair question, and it deserves a clear answer instead of marketing speak. Here it is.
Prefer watching? This video explains everything in under 4 minutes:
When you bought your Lifetime server, you got a server with the panel we had at the time. That's a fair deal, and we're not going to touch it.
ZapX isn't a fresh coat of paint on that panel. It's a completely new platform, with features the old system never had. Some of them are built once and done. Others cost us real money every time they're used:
It used to be normal in software: you buy version 1, and when version 2 arrives with big new features, you pay an upgrade price. Often a hefty one.
We deliberately decided against that. You don't pay a single cent of upgrade price to move to ZapX. After that, you pay a small amount that covers exactly the things that keep generating costs. Not the server you already own.
To be honest, we had two other options: simply leave the new features out for Lifetime customers, or cross-finance them through higher prices for all our other customers. We found both worse than an open, small contribution from those who actually use the features.
Here's how it looks for VPS. On the left, the rental price of a comparable VPS in ZapX; on the right, what you pay per server for the Pass with your Lifetime VPS:
| VPS | Rent per 30 days | With ZapX Pass Plus (1 server) | With ZapX Pass Plus (2 servers) | With ZapX Pass Pro (8 servers) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 GB RAM, 4 cores | €9.99 | €4.99 | €2.50 | €1.25 |
| 16 GB RAM, 6 cores | €17.99 | €4.99 | €2.50 | €1.25 |
| 32 GB RAM, 8 cores | €31.99 | €4.99 | €2.50 | €1.25 |
Over a full year: renting a 16 GB VPS costs around €216. With Lifetime and the Plus Pass, you pay just under €60. And the Pass costs the same no matter how big your server is.
That's not rent through the back door, it's a fraction of it. In return, you get a panel that's on a completely different technical level.
Every tier covers your whole account. The main difference is how many Lifetime servers they cover:
| ZapX Pass | Plus | Pro | Max |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price per 30 days | €4.99 | €9.99 | €14.99 |
| Lifetime servers | 2 | 8 | unlimited |
| Backup slots per service | 1 | 3 | 5 |
| Automatic backups | – | ✓ | ✓ |
| Control via Discord bot | – | ✓ | ✓ |
| Direct chat with the ZAP team on Discord | – | – | ✓ |
Included in every tier: AI Assistant, Claude and ChatGPT via MCP, the ZapX app (coming soon) and no activity checks. Lifetime Dedicated Servers need their own slot for €9.90 per 30 days in every tier.
Lifetime Dedicated Servers are the exception. They aren't included in any Pass tier. For each Lifetime Dedicated Server, you book a separate Dedicated Lifetime slot for €9.90 per 30 days on top of your Pass.
The reason: a Dedicated Server is a whole machine that runs around the clock just for you and uses a lot of power. Electricity prices have risen sharply in recent years. The slot mainly covers these power costs and makes sure we can keep offering Dedicated Lifetime.
In the old Customer Panel, a Lifetime server gets locked if you don't log in to the panel for three months, and deleted four weeks later. In ZapX, these activity checks no longer exist. As long as you have a Pass, your Lifetime server keeps running, even if you don't log in for months.
If you cancel your Pass or don't have enough Lifetime slots, your Lifetime server isn't deleted. It gets locked: it's stopped, but it stays yours. As soon as you have a Pass and a free Lifetime slot again, you can reactivate it at any time. The only thing that may change when you reactivate it is the IP address or port.
The move is voluntary. But we'll be honest with you about what that means: the old Customer Panel has reached the end of its life cycle. We're no longer developing it, it won't get any new features, and technically it's no longer up to date. Every improvement, every new feature, every AI innovation will come to ZapX only from now on.
The move itself is quick: it takes about a minute, and your server simply keeps running in the meantime. Your data, your IP address and your Lifetime term all come with you.
We're inviting customers step by step right now. When your server is ready for the move, you'll get an email and see a banner in your Customer Panel. We'll expand this to more customers over time.
For the first movers, there's an early-mover bonus right now: you get the ZapX Pass for free for a while. How long and until when, you'll see in your Customer Panel with the migration offer.
We understand that a monthly amount can feel like “Lifetime isn't Lifetime anymore” at first. We see it differently: your server stays yours. The Pass is the price for a platform that keeps evolving, with AI, an app, Backups and new hardware that cost money on an ongoing basis.
We know not everyone shares our view, and that's okay. Tell us in the comments what you think, what you're missing and what we can do better. We read every comment and reply.
A personal note to finish:
I founded ZAP-Hosting in 2010, and many of you have been with us for years. Lifetime has always been a promise you could rely on, and it should stay that way. With ZapX, we didn't want to take anything away from you, but finally give you the platform your servers deserve. I'd be glad if you gave it a try and told me honestly what you think.

We're inviting customers step by step right now. When your server is ready for the move, you'll get an email and see a banner in your Customer Panel. We'll expand this to more customers over time.
No. The server stays paid for. The Pass covers your entire account and several Lifetime servers at the same time.
Plus covers 2 servers, Pro 8, Max unlimited. If you have more Lifetime servers, you simply choose the right tier. Lifetime Dedicated Servers aren't included: each one needs its own Dedicated Lifetime slot for €9.90 per 30 days.
It gets locked, not deleted. It stays yours, and you can reactivate it any time with a Pass and a free Lifetime slot. Only the IP address or port may change.
No. But we explicitly recommend it, because the old panel is no longer being developed.
No, the move is final. That's why the first period with the early-mover bonus is free, so you can get to know ZapX without any risk.
Your ZAP Coins balance stays in the old Customer Panel. You can keep using it there for servers you haven't moved, for example to pay running invoices or upgrades. If the balance comes from real payments and you no longer need it because of the move, you can ask our support whether a refund is possible. Promotional credit, for example from bonuses or promo campaigns, is excluded.
Booked Premium Storage keeps running unchanged in the old Customer Panel, even if you move individual servers to ZapX. There is no Premium Storage in ZapX. There, the backup slots of your Pass tier cover your backups.
Log in to your ZAP account or register now. The registration is free, there are no duty of payment. All products are also available as prepaid products. That means, if you do not continue paying your server, it will be closed automatically without any costs.

One heads-up, precisely because you mostly work via SSH: in the legacy panel, Lifetime servers still have the activity check. If you don't use the Customer Panel for a long time, the server gets locked first and deleted later on. SSH activity doesn't count for that. So open your server's page in the Customer Panel every now and then. You'll get a warning email before anything happens. In ZapX this check no longer exists.
Whenever the migration offer shows up in your panel, feel free to take your time. We'd be happy to see you in ZapX at some point!
The new features of ZapX are top-notch.
Moreover, it’s definitely useful to have new tools to enhance the experience.
Personally, I’m undecided.
I’m hosting a small Minecraft network on my Lifetime Server.
If there were a way to use ZapX (with servers) but without AI or Discord features to maybe try it out first and then get the pass when it’s really needed.
Almost 5€ isn’t much.
Thanks for reading and for the opportunity to provide feedback!

thank you for the open question. You're right, an overview of ZapX is still missing because a lot is still in progress. We'll catch up on that soon.
You can continue to use your lifetime servers in the existing customer panel; the migration is voluntary. Only in ZapX do you need the pass. It applies to your entire account, not per server:
- Plus (€4.99): 2 lifetime servers
- Pro (€9.99): 8 lifetime servers
- Max (€14.99): unlimited lifetime servers
Even Plus includes the AI Assistant, which manages your server via chat, and backups for each service. For vServers, snapshots are added: If something goes wrong during a change, you can revert to an earlier state. Pro and Max offer even more, such as additional backups and control via Discord. With 18 servers, you'd be at Max, one amount for all together.
And yes, there will also be new lifetime servers in ZapX, paid once as usual, along with the pass.

- Max (14,99 €): beliebig viele Lifetime-Server
Thats why I am a Zap customer and for years.
That beeing said: I wont upgrade to ZapX - I dont want to pay monthly fees. Thats why I initially bought the server.
With the cost of 4.99€/Month there needs to be more for me than a new UI with some fancy AI functionalities that I dont really need :/
And that's completely fine: your Lifetime server keeps running in the current panel, without a Pass and without monthly fees. The old panel won't get new features anymore, but it still gets security updates and bug fixes.
Just so you know what ZapX adds beyond a new UI: backups for every service, snapshots for vServers, over 300 one-click apps, automatic restarts and health checks, sharing your servers with your team, and no more activity checks for Lifetime servers. On top of that come the AI Assistant, control via Discord and a mobile app that's coming soon.
If that's ever worth it for you, the option is there. If not, nothing changes for your server.
I have to be honest, this whole situation feels bizarre'
Many of us bought Lifetime servers under the assumption that "lifetime" meant exactly that: buy once, keep using the service.
Now we're being told that while our servers are still technically ours, using them on the new platform requires a monthly subscription.
To many customers, the message sounds like:
"You bought the server, but you didn't buy access to the platform we'll be using going forward."
I understand that building a new platform costs money. Infrastructure costs money. Developers cost money. AI features cost money.
But let's be real: most people don't care about AI assistants or fancy premium features. They just want the game server, VPS, or dedicated server they already paid for.
The original appeal of Lifetime was simple:
1. Buy once.
2. Keep your server and never worry about monthly payments!
That's why a required monthly pass for the new platform feels wrong, even if Lifetime ownership is technically still being honored.
My biggest concern is the future of the legacy panel. If we're being told we don't have to migrate, then:
Will the legacy panel continue receiving security updates, bug fixes, and long-term maintenance?
Because if the old panel is eventually left behind, then "you don't have to migrate" doesn't really feel like a choice.
It just feels like a delayed subscription.
Your Lifetime server stays yours and keeps running in the current panel, without a Pass. The Pass only applies if you move to ZapX.
To be clear about the old panel: it is not being developed any further. No new features, no new tools, no AI. Everything new happens in ZapX only. What it does still get are security updates and bug fixes, so it stays safe and usable. We fixed two security issues there just this week.
So the choice is real: stay with what you have, or move when the new features are worth it to you.
You say it is not a paywall, but it is because I cannot use my lifetime server without subscribing and the subscription is too expensive for me.
When I purchased my lifetime servers, I read and accepted the terms and conditions, which made no mention of a subscription fee for using them. I am now concerned that this is an illegal move.
One important point: you can keep using your Lifetime servers without a subscription. They keep running in the current panel exactly as you bought them, under the terms you accepted back then. The Pass only applies if you choose to move to ZapX, and that move is voluntary.
We understand that the price doesn't work for everyone. If ZapX isn't worth it for you right now, staying where you are is a valid choice, and the old panel keeps getting security updates and bug fixes.
However, I still have a question: I previously understood that if you no longer have the ZapX Pass, the server would be locked and deleted after 30 days. Now I read here in the blog post that the server simply remains locked and can be reactivated at any time.
So what is correct? Is the server still mine forever and is only temporarily locked if I don't get the pass? Or is it deleted after 30 days of being locked? I would be very interested in this question. Otherwise, I have to say that I have already made the switch. So far, everything is going very well. I like the new features (even if I will use them rarely or hardly at all). Still, it's nice to have these new options available should I need them.
I also find the Cloudflare integration for domains very practical :D
Wishing you a pleasant day!

Was stimmt den jetzt?
thank you for your feedback, and it's great to hear that the move went so well!
To your question: We have decided that lifetime servers will only be locked without a pass. Your data remains stored and the server remains yours. If you later get a pass with a free lifetime slot, you can simply activate it again. The only limitation is that the IP address or port may change in the meantime.
We're glad you like the Cloudflare integration. Have a nice day!
Show original
Also, IPv6 and snapshots are basic features that have been requested for a long time and come standard with other hosts. Why are they now behind a subscription?
On the features: snapshots and backups in ZapX are part of the Pass for every customer, including those who rent their servers monthly. Lifetime customers don't pay extra for them compared to anyone else. With most other hosts, these features are simply included in a monthly rental price, which you never pay for your Lifetime server. IPv6 is not part of the Pass.
We know the slot limits per tier feel strange for Lifetime. That's why one Pass covers your whole account and not each server individually.
1. Windows support: Is a Lifetime Windows Server 2019 VPS fully supported in the ZapX migration, and are there any limitations compared to Linux VPS (backups, snapshots, AI Assistant, console access)?
2. IP address: You say the IP stays the same during migration. Can you confirm it also stays the same if I later cancel the Pass and reactivate the server? The article says the IP or port "may change" on reactivation, and several of my services (backup jobs, DNS, tunnels) depend on a fixed IP.
3. Hardware: You mention Lifetime servers move to newer hosts over time. Will nested virtualization (Hyper-V/WSL2/Docker) become available on those hosts? It's currently not supported on my VPS.
4. Early-mover bonus: How long does the free Pass last, and what happens when it ends? Does it switch to paid automatically, or do I have to opt in?
5. Backups: With the Plus tier (1 backup slot), are there size or retention limits for a Windows VPS?
Thanks!
1. Windows: Yes, Lifetime Windows VPS can move to ZapX. Your server is moved exactly as it is, including the installed Windows, and we don't charge anything extra for it. One limitation: the full one-click app setup through the AI Assistant is not available on Windows.
2. IP address: The IP stays the same during the move. If your Pass ends, the server is locked but keeps its resources assigned. We still can't guarantee the same IP after reactivation, so if your services depend on a fixed IP, keep the Pass active.
3. Nested virtualization: We can't promise that at the moment. The hardware upgrades mainly mean more performance.
4. Early-mover bonus: You'll see exactly how long the free period lasts in the move offer in your panel. You add a payment method when you move, and after the free period the Pass continues as a paid subscription. We remind you by email 14 days and 3 days before it ends, and if you cancel during the free period, you pay nothing.
5. Backups: With Plus, each service has one backup slot, so one backup is kept at a time. Pro gives you 3 slots with automatic backups, Max gives you 5.
In the past, I only had live time Minecraft servers, then other servers were added. Unfortunately, there weren't live time VServers from the beginning. :/ Or does a premium game server have more CPU power than a VServer?
I think that would also save resources. I would also be willing to minimize performance (RAM) (+ purchased additional games, which I think can be added for free like with VServers (Live-Time), right?) if everything can be combined.
I would like to have an even cheaper subscription (than the ZapX Pass Plus) without AI functionality. (just like currently) AI costs money and I don't need such a function. Why should I pay for that?
Would a Lite subscription for ~2€ a month be possible?
Can you buy the ZapX Pass with just one payment or can it also be done with credit?
Show original
thank you for the many concrete ideas.
Combining multiple game servers, TeamSpeak, and vServers into one server is currently not possible. However, we are happy to take your request as feedback. Additional games on a lifetime game server are purchased individually, they are not automatically included for free.
We will also pass on your request for a cheaper Lite version without AI to the team.
Important: Your lifetime servers will continue to run in the previous panel without a pass. The pass is only required if you switch to ZapX.
Show original
As a business user of a "Webspace XtraXtra Large" package in the lifetime model, we are following the current developments regarding the ZapX subscription with great interest. However, a significant question arises regarding the future direction and economic viability for existing customers.
From a business perspective, the pricing of the ZapX subscription at 4.99 euros per month in the context of web hosting products raises questions. Since the package we use could be utilized as a regular rental server for 5.52 euros per month, an additional monthly fee would almost completely negate the economic advantage of the lifetime investment made.
Furthermore, the entire administration of our web spaces is already done natively through the Plesk interface. The announced AI features seem primarily designed for managing game servers or VPS and, based on our current knowledge, do not offer any significant operational added value for classic, Plesk-based web hosting.
We would therefore appreciate an official clarification in the blog regarding how the process for existing lifetime web spaces will be defined in the future and to what extent there will be a transparent distinction between the subscription models.

thank you very much for your factual inquiry.
In principle, it applies: Switching to ZapX is voluntary. Those who remain in the previous customer panel with their lifetime products do not need a ZapX Pass.
Currently, a move to ZapX is not planned for web space packages. Your lifetime web space will remain in the previous customer panel and will be managed there as usual via Plesk, without additional costs.
Show original
Is it worth 4.99€ a month for me? Probably not without the possibility of automating it.
I have to see if there’s something useful for me among the AI features when you properly introduce ZapX (that doesn't seem to have happened yet).
Show original
Regarding automation: Automatic backups on a schedule are available from the Pro Pass (€9.99 every 30 days). The Pro covers up to 8 lifetime servers and has 3 backup slots per service. In the Plus Pass (€4.99), each service has one backup slot that you create yourself. You can create snapshots, for example, before an update and revert back if something goes wrong.
About the AI features: You're right, a comprehensive overview of ZapX is still missing, and we will provide that soon. Just to give you a quick heads-up: The AI Assistant manages your server via chat. It reads logs, changes configs, and executes commands, but only after your approval. Additionally, all tiers include integration with Claude and ChatGPT via MCP.
As soon as your server is ready for the move, you can use the pass with the early bird bonus for free for a limited time. Just keep in mind that the move itself is final.
Show original
1. Will the possibility to purchase new lifetime servers but under the old terms and panel still be available. Or will all new lifetime servers be forced to be using the new ZapX?
2. Will there be an option to choose what features of ZapX you are willing to use and pay for? For example if I dont want to use the AI features, can I then choose that and get a cheaper pass?
Also I know this would require some different inferstructure and that some people would dislike this even more, but I personnally would rather pay for the electricity that my server uses (if its a lifetime dedicated server) and then pay that bit more or less monthly than have a pass. And then pay for the tokens I use when talking to the AI bot (if I do decide to use it), than pay extra montly if I do decide not to use the AI. This would/could work kinda like the network traffic where you pay extra if you use more than the montly quota. If it is decided that a system like this would be done with electricity and/or AI Tokens, it would of course need to change based on the current prices. I acknowledge that this suggestion, is in some ways a lot of ways worse than the pass.
Not saying I'm agains the pass idea I think it is totally fair that you pay a bit extra montly, especially if you have lifetime dedicated servers. Because you basically payed once and then maintainence and electricity was "free". Which is not viable long term especially with increasing numbers of lifetime servers. Just don't like to pay for features that I don't use. I will gladly pay more than the pass for electricity and generel costs of running it so I don't need to handle the infrastructure stuff myself.
1. Right now Lifetime products can still be bought in the current panel. New Lifetime servers will also be available in ZapX, paid once as usual, and they run there with a Pass. We can't promise how long Lifetime will still be sold in the old panel, since all new development happens in ZapX.
2. Not at the moment. Plus at 4.99 € per 30 days is the smallest tier and already covers 2 Lifetime servers for your whole account. A cheaper variant without AI features has been requested by others as well, and we've passed your request on to the team, together with your idea of usage-based billing for power and AI tokens.
On dedicated servers, your thinking is actually close to how we handle it: Lifetime dedicated servers aren't covered by any Pass tier. Each one needs its own Dedicated Lifetime slot for 9.90 € per 30 days on top of the Pass, and that slot mainly covers the electricity of a machine that runs around the clock just for you.
And of course the move is voluntary. If you don't need the new features, your Lifetime servers keep running in the current panel without a Pass.
I'm writing the following:
"No, the move is final. That's why the first period with the early adopter bonus is free, so you can get to know ZapX without any risk."
If I don't like the panel or the new features, or they don't provide any value for me, isn't that still a risk as a lifetime customer? Since I can't switch back and my server will be locked without an active subscription? So either I test it and it has to please me or be useful for me, or my server will be permanently locked. Can you shed some light on this?
Show original
that's a valid question, and here’s the honest answer: Yes, the move is final; you won't be able to go back to the old panel afterwards. So, it’s not completely without risk in that sense. Only take the step if you’re convinced by ZapX.
What happens after the trial period is up to you. During the free period, you won’t pay anything, and if you cancel the pass during this time, there are no costs. We will remind you 14 days and 3 days before the end via email.
Without a pass, your lifetime server will be locked, not deleted. Your data will remain stored, and the server will still belong to you. If you later get a pass with an available lifetime slot, you can reactivate it at any time. The only things that may change are the IP address or the port. Locked means: as long as there is no active pass, the server will not run.
If you’re unsure whether you want to use ZapX permanently, it’s perfectly fine to stay in the previous panel. There, your server will continue to run without a pass.

Dort läuft dein Server ohne Pass weiter.
Questions:
- What happens to the Zap Coins during a migration? In the beta, there were no Zap Coins available anymore.
- What happens to services that ZapX no longer offers (for example, Premium Storage)?
- Will there still be the 3 months of inactivity? So, if you pay monthly for the ZapX Pass, do you still have to pay attention to your lifetime server?
Comments/Feedback:
- I find that the backup option is worse now. If I have a small Discord bot that would make backups hourly, I would only have 5 backups. If there is an error during that time and I can't directly revert to a backup where everything was still working, everything gets lost. With Premium Storage, as it is now, that wouldn't necessarily be the case. With 50GB of backup storage, several hundred backups for a small Discord bot would fit, so you would be on the safer side.
- I think it's a shame that users can't test ZapX and, if they feel they don't need this ZapX feature, can't go back. The free offer would be a great opportunity for newcomers to assess whether they really need the new features.

Fragen:
thank you for the many specific questions and the honest feedback.
ZAP-Coins: Your balance remains in the old customer panel. There you can continue to use it for servers that you haven't moved, for example for ongoing invoices or upgrades. If the balance comes from real deposits and you no longer need it because of the move, you can ask support if a refund is possible. Promotional credits from bonuses or promo actions are excluded from this.
Premium Storage: We are currently clarifying how existing bookings will be handled during the move and will add the answer here.
Activity checks: No. In ZapX, there are no more activity checks for lifetime servers, so you no longer need to log in every three months. In the old panel, the check still applies.
Regarding backups: Thank you, the example with the Discord bot is easy to understand. Depending on your pass level, you have 1, 3, or 5 backup slots per service, and from Pro onwards, automatic backups as well. We will pass on your preference for more space for very frequent backups to the team.
About testing before the move: We will take this request into account as well. The move is currently final, so only take the step if you are convinced by ZapX. In the old panel, your server continues to run without a pass.

I would like to keep my Lifetime vServer in the old Customer Panel under my existing agreement, without migrating to ZapX.
I only use the server to host Counter-Strike 1.6, and everything works well as it is. I do not need the additional ZapX features and do not wish to pay any further subscription fees.
Could you please confirm that I can continue using my Lifetime vServer in the old panel without additional charges, provided I meet the existing activity requirements? Please do not migrate my server without my explicit consent.
Thank you for your help.
Kind regards,
Elijon Nikoliqi
thanks for your message. Yes, you can keep using your Lifetime vServer in the current Customer Panel without a Pass and without any additional fees. The move to ZapX is voluntary.
Your server won't be moved on its own. The move only happens if you start it yourself from the offer in your panel and confirm it there. If you never do that, your vServer simply stays where it is.
One thing to keep in mind: in the current panel the Lifetime activity check still applies. If you don't open the Customer Panel for three months, the server gets locked and later deleted. Activity on the server itself, such as players on your Counter-Strike 1.6 server, doesn't count for that. So open your server's page in the Customer Panel every now and then. You'll get a warning email before anything happens.

We openly say that ZapX also needs to function economically for us. The Pass pays for the things that continuously cost money, such as AI, apps, backups, and integrations. You are not renting your lifetime server anew with it.
And it’s completely fine not to switch. The move is voluntary; your server will continue to run in the previous panel without a Pass and without monthly costs. The old panel will no longer receive new features, but it will continue to get security updates and bug fixes.
One more note: In the previous panel, the activity check still applies for lifetime servers. So please open your server's page in the customer panel from time to time, otherwise it will be locked after three months without access. You will receive a warning email beforehand.

One thing we'd like to clear up: ZAP-Hosting isn't a big corporation, we're a small, owner-run company. And we'll be honest: ZapX also has to work for us financially. The Pass pays for the things that cost money every day, like the AI Assistant, the app, backups and integrations. It doesn't make you rent your Lifetime server again.
To answer your questions directly: moving to ZapX is voluntary, and there are no plans to make it mandatory. Your Lifetime VPS keeps running in the current panel, without a Pass and without monthly fees. The old panel won't get new features anymore, but it still gets security updates and bug fixes. And if you open a support ticket about it, you get help, not a "please upgrade" reply.
One tip: in the current panel, the activity check for Lifetime servers still applies. Open your server's page in the customer panel every now and then, otherwise it gets locked after three months without a visit. You'll get a warning email before that happens.
Two things matter here, though. First, a server without a Pass is only locked, not deleted. Your data stays, and you can reactivate it any time with a Pass. Second, nobody has to move: your Lifetime server keeps running in the current panel without a Pass and without monthly fees.
I find backups in ZapX quite tempting, too bad there is no snapshot function in the Legacy. I'm still considering whether to make the move later. I don't really need K and all that since I handle everything via SSH myself.
Best regards

thank you for your message. We can't give you a definitive answer regarding new operating system versions in the old panel at the moment. What is certain is: The old panel will not receive any new features, but it will continue to get security updates and bug fixes.
Snapshots and backups are available in ZapX with the Pass, and you don't need to use the AI Assistant for that. If you want to take a closer look: You can also just move a single server and test ZapX during the free Pass period. If the Pass does not continue afterwards, the server will only be suspended, not deleted.
Show original
1. **New Lifetime purchases:** Will customers still be able to purchase new Lifetime servers under the existing terms and manage them through the old Customer Panel, or will all new Lifetime servers eventually be available exclusively through ZapX?
2. **Upgrading existing servers:** Will it remain possible to upgrade existing Lifetime servers under the old terms and continue using the legacy panel, without being required to migrate to ZapX or purchase a ZapX Pass?
3. **Advance notice:** If Lifetime servers under the old terms or the legacy panel are going to be discontinued, will customers receive advance notice before these options are removed? If so, how much notice can we expect?
4. **Future availability:** Is there any planned deadline for purchasing or upgrading Lifetime servers under the current system, or is the existing option expected to remain available indefinitely?
I understand that ZapX is the platform being developed for future features, but I would appreciate some clarification so customers can make informed decisions before purchasing or upgrading a Lifetime server.
Thank you!
Right now, Lifetime servers can still be bought and managed in the current panel. New Lifetime servers are also available in ZapX, paid once as usual, and they run there with a Pass. We can't promise how long Lifetime will still be sold in the old panel, since all new development happens in ZapX. The same applies to upgrades of existing servers in the old panel. We can't give you a fixed timeframe there either.
What doesn't change: your existing Lifetime servers keep running in the current panel without a Pass and without monthly fees, and moving to ZapX is voluntary.
An add-on that only switches off the activity check doesn't exist at the moment, and the smallest Pass tier is Plus at 4.99 € per 30 days. It covers 2 Lifetime servers for your whole account, so with a single server it does feel like more than you need. We've passed your idea of a small "no activity check" option on to the team, without being able to promise anything.
Two things that might help:
You can now pay the Pass up to 12 months in advance, and longer terms come with a discount, so you don't have to deal with it every month.
If you'd rather stay where you are, that's completely fine. Your Lifetime server keeps running in the current panel without a Pass. There the activity check still applies: open your server's page in the Customer Panel every now and then, and you'll get a warning email before anything happens.
I read your email and the blog post, and to be honest, I find the development quite disappointing.
I consciously bought my lifetime server back then because I wanted to pay once and then have no ongoing costs. That was the decisive point for me in the offer.
I can understand that new features like AI incur ongoing costs. However, what I cannot understand is: Why is my entire, already paid server blocked after the switch if I don't pay for a pass anymore? Even if I don't use these features at all?
That means the use of my server after the move is permanently tied to another payment. I find the statement "Lifetime behind a paywall? No." quite contradictory.
I find it particularly difficult that the switch is final. You offer a free month, but if I realize afterwards that I don't need the new features, I can't go back, and my server won't run without further payment. Therefore, I don't perceive this as a non-binding trial.
I read that the old panel is supposed to continue receiving security updates and bug fixes. Can you confirm to me that my lifetime server will remain usable there permanently under my previous contract conditions without additional base fees and that the necessary maintenance and support will be provided?
And why don't you offer an option in ZapX to continue using the already paid lifetime server with basic management and add the additional features as needed?
That's exactly what I would expect from a lifetime offer.

thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback.
You are correct about one point, and we say this openly: In ZapX, a lifetime server only runs with an active pass. The reason is that the pass not only pays for the extras but also covers the operation of your server on the new platform, including ongoing migrations to newer hardware. Without a pass, the server is locked, not deleted: your data and server remain yours, and with a pass and an available slot, you can reactivate it at any time. We can understand that it doesn't feel like a lifetime service despite this.
You are also right about testing: Because the migration is final, the free period is not an obligation-free trial. So only migrate if you are truly convinced by ZapX.
Regarding your question about the previous panel: Your lifetime server continues to run there without a pass and without monthly fees. There are no plans to shut down the old panel or make the switch mandatory. It will not receive new features anymore, but will continue to get security updates and bug fixes, and if there are any issues, support will assist you there as usual. Just remember the activity check: Open your server's page in the customer panel from time to time, or you will receive a warning email beforehand.
Currently, there is no basic management in ZapX without a pass. Your suggestion to operate the server there without a pass and add features as needed has also been made by others, and we will pass it on to the team.
Show original
I am sure that ZapX will be a great platform, and I also understand that the costs need to be covered somehow.
However, prices and partnerships must remain fair. The decision to have to rent a separate slot for each Dedicated Lifetime Server feels more like a punishment for the loyal customers who continuously place their trust in you and buy lifetime products from you. I have invested a significant amount with you and actually intended to continue doing so. Currently, I find the price for the ZapX dedicated slots too expensive, especially since an additional fee is required for each server, and I kindly ask you to cancel my beta request for ZapX. The only feature that would really interest me about ZapX would be the API. I don't need any AI nonsense; it might be fancy, but it doesn't provide any value for me. Paying 10 euros a month for an API per server would be outrageous. I hope you will reconsider the pricing model and possibly offer the API as a standalone product. I would be willing to pay 30 euros a month for that, but as a total and not per server. Or a Dedicated Pass with a flat rate for an unlimited number of Dedicated Servers. Currently, I would have to pay more in ZapX fees for my servers than what a rack colocation in other data centers would cost me, which doesn't add up.
At the moment, customers feel cheated and disappointed in the trust placed in you. I hope that you will create an attractive offer. It would be very unfortunate if the partnership had to end because you are now starting to take advantage of customers.
Best regards,
Thomas

Thomas
thank you for your honest feedback, especially for being so clear about it. Since you have been with us for a long time and have multiple servers, we take this seriously.
Regarding the API, there seems to be a misunderstanding: API and MCP access in ZapX are included with every Pass starting from Plus and apply to your entire account, meaning all your services including Dedicated Servers. The API does not cost per server. The Dedicated Lifetime Slot for €9.90 every 30 days is something different: every Lifetime Dedicated Server in ZapX needs it, and it primarily covers the power of a machine that runs just for you around the clock. We understand that this can seem more expensive than colocation when you have many Dedicated Servers.
We will pass your two suggestions, to offer the API as a standalone product with a flat rate and a Pass with a flat rate for any number of Dedicated Servers, on to the team. We can't promise anything regarding that.
By the way, you don't have to use the AI Assistant. If you only need API, backups, or snapshots, you can simply ignore it.
Regarding your inquiry: You don't need to cancel anything. The move only happens if you start and confirm it yourself from the offer in your customer panel. Until then, your Lifetime Servers will continue to run in the previous panel without a Pass and without monthly costs. Just remember to check for activity: occasionally open the page of your servers in the customer panel, otherwise you'll receive a warning email.

Did I understand correctly that the corresponding products can be deactivated without a pass after the move, but can be reactivated at any time with a pass? This means that even if I don't have a pass for two years or have a pass that is too small for all products, I can still reactivate them when I need them again?
Does this also apply to dedicated servers? That would mean that in this hypothetical scenario, the servers would just collect dust in your racks for two years? Or will new dedicated servers with the same/similar performance be assigned upon reactivation?
One more question: Is it finally possible to upgrade dedicated servers in the new panel, e.g., with larger SSDs?
Best regards
Show original
good questions, in order:
1. Yes, you understood that correctly. Without a pass or with too few slots, lifetime products are locked in ZapX, not deleted. There is no deadline after which a locked lifetime server will be deleted in ZapX. Even after two years, you can reactivate it with a pass and a free slot. The only things that might change are the IP address or port.
2. The same applies to dedicated servers. The hardware remains assigned to you, the server is shut down, and the hard drives and data remain untouched. So, you are not assigned a different server; your machine actually waits in the rack until you reactivate it. For each lifetime dedicated server, you need an additional dedicated lifetime slot for €9.90 every 30 days, in addition to the pass. Your other lifetime products like VPS or game servers share the slots of your pass level: Plus 2, Pro 8, Max unlimited.
3. Hardware upgrades like a larger SSD cannot currently be booked by you for dedicated servers in ZapX. We will gladly pass on your request to the team.
By the way, we are gradually opening the migration for dedicated servers. As soon as your servers are ready, you will receive an email and see a notice in your customer panel.

gute Fragen, der Reihe nach:

You don't have to use the AI Assistant in ZapX; it's an option, not a requirement. You can also use snapshots, backups, and the other features without AI.
Regarding IPv6: New virtual servers in ZapX automatically receive their own IPv6-/64 network, which you can see in the dashboard under IP addresses. For migrated lifetime virtual servers, IPv6 cannot yet be activated by yourself in the panel. We will pass on that this is important to you to the team.
Show original

thank you for the hint, it’s actually not clear at first glance. Here’s how you calculate:
1. Count your lifetime vServers, game servers, TeamSpeak servers, and Discord bots that you want to move. Your lifetime root server counts as a vServer, it is listed as a vServer in ZapX.
2. This determines the pass level that applies to your entire account: Plus (€4.99) for up to 2 servers, Pro (€9.99) for up to 8 servers, Max (€14.99) unlimited, each for 30 days.
3. Additionally, for each lifetime dedicated server, there is a separate dedicated lifetime slot for €9.90 each for 30 days.
Example: three lifetime vServers and one root server make four servers, so Pro for €9.99. If you also have two dedicated servers, that adds 2 x €9.90.
However, you don’t have to do the calculations yourself in the end: In the migration assistant in ZapX, you can see which level fits for the servers you select, and before completing, what will be charged after the free period. You can also move only individual servers, the rest stays in the previous panel without a pass. We will pass your request for a computer on to the team.

So rechnest du:
Regarding the recent changes to ZapX, I have a couple of questions and suggestions.
1. Since the current ZapX Pass prices are a little higher than I expected, would you consider introducing a **Basic Pass** at a lower price? It could include only the essential dashboard and server management features, without AI assistance, backup services, or other premium features.
2. Is there any possibility of introducing a **one-time payment or lifetime option for the ZapX Pass**, rather than requiring a recurring payment every 30 days? This would be especially helpful for existing Lifetime VPS customers who purchased their servers to avoid ongoing rental costs.
I believe a more affordable basic plan or a one-time payment option would make ZapX more attractive to customers who only need basic server management and don't require the additional premium features.
Are either of these options being considered for the future?
Thank you!
thanks for the constructive suggestions.
1. A Basic Pass: right now Plus is the smallest tier, at 4.99 € per 30 days for your whole account, covering 2 Lifetime servers. The AI Assistant is included, but you don't have to use it. A cheaper variant without AI and premium features has been requested by others as well, and we've added your vote to that request for the team.
2. A one-time or lifetime Pass doesn't exist, and we can't promise one. What's new since this week: you can pay the Pass up to 12 months in advance instead of every 30 days, and longer terms come with a discount. That way one payment covers the whole year.
And if neither fits for you right now, staying in the current panel is a valid choice. Your Lifetime servers keep running there without a Pass and without monthly fees.
I have a question, or rather, I would appreciate a confirmation that I understood this correctly.
Currently, I have 4 Lifetime servers. If I have these servers migrated to ZAPX now and then later cancel the subscription, will my already paid servers be locked?
Did I understand that correctly?
Best regards
Show original
yes, you understood that correctly. In ZapX, there are lifetime servers with an active ZapX pass. If you cancel the pass, your servers will be locked but not deleted: Your data will remain intact, and as soon as you have a pass again, you can reactivate the servers. The IP or port may change in the process.
You decide for yourself during the migration which of your lifetime servers will switch to ZapX. So you can first move one or two and take a look at the features at your leisure. The Plus Pass is sufficient for up to 2 servers. For all 4, you need at least the Pro Pass (€9.99 per 30 days, for up to 8 lifetime servers).
Important for your decision: The migration is voluntary, and a migrated server will remain in ZapX afterwards. Your other servers will stay in the previous customer panel. You don't need a pass there, and we will continue to take care of maintenance, security updates, and support.
Show original
One Lite pass, which only has the functions like the old panel (no AI, no app activation), just with the advantages like, for example, no automatic lock due to inactivity in the panel, you can combine different servers into one VPS (possibly with an extra charge) (if there’s no automatic migration, then possibly that the old servers are converted to monthly fees and you pay that to have a backup server if you want.) (possibly also only for one server)
I have 3 servers and I am satisfied with the old panel, just not with the verification that was introduced over time.
The 2nd plan is a free plan that can no longer be purchased and only has the disadvantages and advantages of the old panel to avoid maintaining 2 panels. (Incompatibility with new Debian versions and the old ones no longer receive security updates.
Show original
Regarding the Lite Pass: Currently, there is no pass without AI and app, and it is not planned at the moment. This also applies to merging multiple servers into one vServer and switching old servers to a monthly fee. However, we have passed your ideas on internally. The smallest pass is Plus for €4.99 per 30 days. It does not include a Discord bot and covers two lifetime servers. You don’t have to use the AI assistant; it is simply included. If you prefer to pay once a year, you can now book the pass up to 12 months in advance.
Regarding the verification that bothers you: The activity check is no longer available in ZapX. As long as you have a pass, your lifetime server continues to run, even if you don’t check the panel for months.
By the way, with three servers, you have two options. The transfer is done per server. You can move two servers with the Plus pass and leave the third one in the old panel for now. Or you can take Pro, which covers up to eight lifetime servers.
Regarding the Free Plan: We understand the thought of uniting both worlds in one panel. To be honest, that is exactly the point where we had to draw a clear line. The old panel remains usable, and the transfer is voluntary. However, it will no longer be developed further, and everything new will only be created in ZapX. Therefore, there will not be a free plan in ZapX with the functionality of the old panel. If you want to stay with the old panel, that is completely fine.

I have been a customer since around 2020 and have followed Zap-Hosting's development with interest. While I understand the reasoning behind the recent changes and the introduction of ZAPX, I am concerned about the potential impact on long-standing customers and brand loyalty.
I recognize that rising energy prices, wages, hardware costs, and developing new features all incur significant expenses. I also appreciate the journey that Zap-Hosting began in 2010. Many people start their own projects in their bedrooms, and there are countless aspiring server owners and hobbyists who dream of building something of their own but who may struggle to afford recurring monthly expenses in today's economic climate. I believe there should be ways to support these newcomers and Zap-Hosting's continued growth.
That said, I'd love to see a return to simple, affordable flat-rate or one-time payment options. If I recall correctly, around 2020, Minecraft servers were available as lifetime services without activity checks. Over time, however, all services began to have activity checks, even for Minecraft servers under old contract conditions.
Perhaps offering a basic tier with a one-time payment for selected services and features would be a good compromise. Ideally, this tier would not include mandatory AI features, as these incur recurring monthly expenses.
Alternatively, loyal customers could be offered a ZAPX trial before committing to migration, especially if switching back isn't possible. This would allow customers to explore the new platform without risking their existing setups, in case they decide that the monthly expenses are worthwhile.
I appreciate how far Zap-Hosting has come since 2010, and I hope a solution can be found that balances the company's growing costs with the needs of both loyal customers and newcomers who want to start their own projects.
Please reach out for feedback regarding why I won't be switching as of now or any other topics.
On the one-time option: your Lifetime server stays paid for, and that doesn't change with the move. What we can't offer in ZapX is the platform itself without ongoing costs, because things like backup storage, the AI Assistant and the app cost us money every month. A basic tier with a one-time payment isn't planned right now, but we've passed your suggestion on to the team, including the idea of a tier without AI features. What is already possible: you can pay the ZapX Pass up to 12 months in advance, so a one payment a year instead of a monthly charge.
On trying ZapX first: the early-mover bonus is the closest thing to a trial at the moment. When the migration offer shows up in your Customer Panel, the Pass is free for a while, and you can see there how long before you decide. You're right that the move can't be undone, so take your time with it.
Your point about newcomers and hobbyists who start small, just like we did in 2010, is well taken. If you'd like to tell us more about why you're not switching for now, just reply here or open a ticket with our support. We read all of it.
I'm glad that this pass now exists. Now I can be sure that Zap won't suddenly stop existing because there are no ongoing revenues from lifetime anymore.
It should be clear to everyone that lifetime without a subscription is not really viable.
And even though I'm usually not in the panel, I finally don’t have to check in regularly just to prevent my server from being suspended.
Show original
For your second lifetime service, by the way, you don't need a larger pass. The ZapX Pass Plus covers two lifetime servers (dedicated servers are excluded, they need their own slot). As soon as the second service is ready for migration, you'll see it in your customer panel. If you notice anything missing or unusual in ZapX, feel free to write it here.
Show original
I have an important question about the future of game servers in the old legacy panel:
How will it be in the future with the game and server versions (e.g., for Minecraft)? Will new versions and updates still be provided and updated by you in the legacy panel, as this is essential for the smooth operation?
Or will there at least be the possibility for us to completely upload and install these versions independently if the panel is no longer updated?
Since the old panel is at the end of its lifecycle according to the blog post, this information is essential for us lifetime customers to know if our servers will still be playable there in the long term.
Show original
thank you for the important question.
Currently, we are still providing new game versions for the old customer panel through our automatic update system, including Minecraft. For the old panel, it also applies: it will no longer receive new features, but will continue to get security updates and bug fixes.
We cannot give you a binding commitment on how long and to what extent this will remain the case for new game versions. We will pass on your wish to be able to upload and install versions yourself if necessary to the team.
All new developments are only happening in ZapX. If planning security is important to you, feel free to take a look at the move: it is voluntary, you can also only move individual servers, and with the early bird bonus, you will get the ZapX Pass for free for a while at the start. It's important to know beforehand: the move is final, and you cannot go back to the old panel afterwards.

thanks for your question. ZAP Coins can't be used in ZapX, so you can't pay for the ZapX Pass with them.
Best regards

thank you for your honest opinion, we take it seriously.
One point for clarification: You can continue to use your lifetime servers without a subscription, and that’s in the existing customer panel. They will run without a pass and without monthly costs. You only need the pass for servers that you move to ZapX.
You are right about the electricity; a server costs that in both systems. That’s why we don’t justify the pass with the electricity of your vServer, but with what is newly added in ZapX and incurs ongoing costs: the AI Assistant, storage space for backups, the app, and integrations like the connection to Claude and ChatGPT via MCP. Only for lifetime dedicated servers does the dedicated slot primarily cover the electricity costs of an entire machine.
We will pass your suggestion to bill the AI separately and offer management without a subscription on to the team. Others have also requested a cheaper variant without AI functions. We can’t promise anything about that.
If you are mainly interested in the snapshots: You can also just move a single server and initially try ZapX for free with the early adopter bonus. Just keep in mind that the move is final.

thank you very much for the response. Then I understand it this way:
I have 5 Lifetime Dedis and 3 Lifetime Vs, which means Zap Pass Pro for €9.99 a month because that adds up to 8 devices.
Since the 5 Lifetime Dedis additionally require one slot each at €9.90, we would be at €49.50 a month.
In total, I would be at €59.49 a month.
At this point, one can say: When I was at S4Y, I paid around €34 a month for a dedicated server. In comparison, the €59.49 a month for everything I currently have here is significantly cheaper. However, one must, of course, not forget that we did pay for the Lifetime Dedis / Lifetime Vs.
When I made the purchase, I compared the rental price of a server with the lifetime price. Of course, I divided the lifetime price by the monthly rental price. This made me realize that the lifetime price of a server (in my configuration) can be calculated for about 2 years. Only after that do you start saving because there are no further costs. Now one would have to consider whether one waits at least these 2 years per Lifetime DediServer so that the boxes have amortized mathematically. In fact, after 2 years, one could consider whether to opt for a ZapX Pass. But from my perspective, certainly not before!
That you as a hoster have ongoing costs is, of course, clear to everyone. Therefore, I think that a lifetime product becomes economically unfeasible for you as a provider after 2 years. If everyone were to do that, I can imagine that you would eventually have to hold your legs out the window because the costs would eat you up. How you internally account for this (currently) is, of course, your business. However, I acknowledge that after 2 years, a fee for electricity and other expenses is justified. Just to secure all of that. Worst case, Zap is eventually gone just like all lifetimes.

thank you for calculating so openly.
Your total is correct: €59.49 for 30 days. There’s a small difference in the calculation: The dedicated servers do not count towards the servers in your pass tier, because each of them gets its own dedicated lifetime slot. Only your lifetime vServers count for the tier, and your root server counts as a vServer. Plus covers 2 of those, for 3 to 8 you’re at Pro for €9.99. Additionally, there are 5 x €9.90 for the dedicated lifetime slots.
Your consideration regarding amortization is understandable, and you don’t need to rush anything. The move is voluntary, your servers continue to run in the previous customer panel without a pass, and you can also just move individual servers. The exact amount for the servers you choose will be shown to you by the migration assistant in ZapX before completion. Important: A migrated server will remain in ZapX afterwards, it cannot go back to the old panel.
Thank you also for your assessment of the ongoing costs. For the dedicated servers, the slot covers exactly that: mainly the power of a machine that runs around the clock just for you.
Show original
since I would also like to see the matter secured, I will eventually move for the Desis. But I will take my time to see when the right moment will be. It is indeed understandable that everyone has to pay for electricity, etc.
But I also want to make it very clear, I don't need all that AI crap. That wouldn't be an argument!
Show original
Regarding AI: You don't have to use the AI Assistant in ZapX. It's included in the pass, but it's not a must. Backups, snapshots for vServers, and the removal of the activity check work completely without it.
For your Dedicated Servers, as described in the article: Everyone needs their own Dedicated Lifetime Slot in ZapX, which primarily covers the power of the machine. Until you decide, your servers will continue to run in the previous customer panel without a pass and without monthly costs.
Show original
There is currently no obligation to migrate. The move only happens if you start it yourself from the offer in your Customer Panel and confirm it there. There are no plans to shut down the classic panel or make the move mandatory. It won't get new features anymore, but it still gets security updates and bug fixes.
So yes, you can keep using your Lifetime server in the classic panel without a Pass and without any monthly fee. You're right about ZapX though: there, a Lifetime server only runs with an active Pass, because the Pass also covers running it on the new platform, including moves to newer hardware over time. A ZapX version without the Pass doesn't exist at the moment.
One tip for the classic panel: the Lifetime activity check still applies there, so open your server's page in the Customer Panel every now and then. You'll get a warning email before anything happens.
To be completely clear: you can stay on the classic panel with your Lifetime server, without a Pass, and you are not obligated to move.
I have been a customer for many years and would like to share my thoughts on the transition of the lifetime servers with you and the community.
I understand that even with one-time purchased servers, there are ongoing costs for electricity, infrastructure, support, and development. Therefore, it does not surprise me that the lifetime model will eventually change. For large projects or communities that finance their server through donations or membership fees, I see some advantages in the new model.
However, for users like me, who purchased a lifetime server solely for themselves and friends, it feels like "join in or fall behind." While I can stay with ZAP Legacy, it seems that I will have to permanently forgo further upgrades. This threatens to leave my server technically behind over time.
I have already had issues with SCUM and Minecraft. In SCUM, some players could not play properly. My tests pointed more towards the server than the game; even after many hours with support, no solution was found. At times, I even suspected that lifetime servers might be treated worse. I cannot prove that, and that is not the point here.
I would love to test whether these problems disappear after migrating to ZAPX. But as soon as I migrate, I am supposed to pay monthly just to be able to use my already purchased server at all. This contradicts the idea of a lifetime purchase for me.
A fairer way, in my opinion, would be to be able to purchase technical upgrades as a one-time fee or to subscribe to the pass flexibly, without the server being locked after expiration. Personally, I do not need AI, Discord bot, and regular backups permanently.
I wish for a solution where lifetime customers can continue to use their server and pay specifically for additional services if needed.

Honestly regarding the situation: Currently, there is no obligation to move. The existing customer panel will no longer receive new features but will continue to get security updates and bug fixes. In ZapX, a lifetime server runs only with an active pass, as the pass not only pays for the extras but also for the operation on the new platform, including moves to newer hardware. Without a pass, the server will be locked, not deleted: your data remains, and with a pass, you can reactivate it at any time. You don't have to use the AI Assistant and the Discord bot in this process.
Your idea of purchasing upgrades once or using the pass flexibly, without the server being locked afterward, has also been mentioned by others here. Whether your SCUM problems will disappear after a move, we cannot reliably predict from here. Important beforehand: A moved server stays in ZapX and cannot go back to the old panel.
To make it perfectly clear: You can stay with your lifetime servers in the current panel, without a pass, and do not have to move.
Show original
I understand that ZapX comes with ongoing costs, particularly for AI, backup storage, the app, and integrations. However, could a Basic Pass focused solely on essential panel functions be a possible compromise?
This tier could be free or significantly cheaper, covering server management, configuration, and console access without AI or provider-hosted backups. Users could receive one or two Lifetime server slots for free, with additional slots available for a fee. This way, the main recurring cost would be tied to the number of Lifetime servers rather than features users may not need.
For backups and snapshots, users could manage their own storage through Google Drive, OneDrive, a home NAS, or external solutions such as Duplicati running on another VPS. Users choosing this option would be responsible for managing their own backups, reducing reliance on Zap-Hosting's storage infrastructure.
I understand that implementing and maintaining these options also comes with costs. Nevertheless, separating essential management functions from optional, resource-intensive features could make ZapX more accessible.
The main idea is to let customers manage their Lifetime servers without paying for features they don't use, while still allowing Zap-Hosting to charge for additional server slots and premium features that generate ongoing costs.
I believe this could be a reasonable middle ground: Zap-Hosting can cover its expenses while hobbyists and long-term customers retain an affordable way to use the services they've already purchased.
Would a model like this be worth considering?
Right now Plus is the smallest tier and covers 2 Lifetime servers for your whole account. A cheaper Basic Pass without AI and without hosted backups isn't planned at the moment, and several people in this thread have suggested something similar, so your idea is in good company. The AI Assistant is included in every tier, but you don't have to use it.
On backups: on a Lifetime VPS you have full root access, so running your own backups to external storage, for example with Duplicati or a NAS at home, is already possible today, both in the classic panel and in ZapX.
To be completely clear: you can stay on the current panel with your Lifetime servers, without a Pass, and you are not obligated to move.
One thing to keep in mind for your plan: in ZapX, every Lifetime server runs with an active Pass, and that includes new Lifetime servers you buy there. The Pass covers your whole account, so Plus covers 2 Lifetime servers in ZapX, Pro 8 and Max unlimited. Lifetime Dedicated Servers are the exception and need their own slot.
Also good to know before you decide: a server you've moved stays in ZapX and can't go back to the classic panel. And in the classic panel the activity check still applies, so open your servers' pages there every now and then.
I understand the idea behind the new platform. However, there’s one thing I don’t understand.
From my perspective, the approach to the new panel is the wrong one. Normally, with most services I’ve seen that have done something similar, every customer receives this migration, and those who want to use the extra features of this new platform can THEN decide if they want to pay something monthly.
It would make much more sense to migrate all customers to the new panel and only put the extra features into a subscription, instead of putting the entire panel into a subscription. This way, you could completely save on the infrastructure, security updates, and bug fixes for the legacy panel. You could also save development time for these patches and invest it more sensibly into the new platform.
I also work professionally in the hosting industry, at about the same company size, maybe a bit larger, and from my point of view, it would make much more sense, or that’s how I would do it at my job. Because then everyone benefits: Customers who don’t want to pay monthly receive the same service with a slightly more modern interface. Customers who want new features can choose to pay monthly, and you can take the legacy panel completely offline and no longer need to invest time there.
The approach comes across to me as if the new server for the new platform doesn’t have the necessary resources to accommodate all customers, which is why it has now been put behind a subscription, so that not all customers are there at once and overload the server.
TL;DR: Why not migrate all customers and put the extra features behind the subscription, instead of putting the entire panel behind the subscription? This way, you completely save on the legacy panel.

As for the why, as openly as possible: In ZapX, the pass not only covers extras like AI, apps, and backups. It also covers the operation of your server on the new platform, including the migrations to newer hardware that are constantly happening with virtual servers and game servers. That's why it is tied to the server itself and not just to individual features. There is no free tier in ZapX with the functionality of the old panel; we have consciously drawn a clear line here.
We do understand your point about the effort for two panels. The old panel will no longer receive new features, but it will continue to get security updates and bug fixes, and the migration is voluntary. Without a pass, a server in ZapX will be locked, not deleted, and can be reactivated at any time.
To make it very clear: You can stay with your lifetime servers in the current panel, without a pass, and do not have to migrate.
Show original
If you stay on the classic panel, keep the activity check in mind: open your server's page in the Customer Panel every now and then. You'll get a warning email before anything happens. In ZapX this check no longer exists.
Show original
Exactly that remains possible. Your lifetime server will continue to run in the previous customer panel, without a pass and without monthly costs. Currently, there is no obligation to move; it only happens if you start it yourself in the panel. The old panel will not receive any new features, but it will still get security updates and bug fixes.
You are right about your point regarding ZapX: There, a lifetime server only runs with an active pass and gets locked without a pass, not deleted. If you don't need the new features, the previous panel is the right way for you. Just remember the activity check and open your server's page from time to time; otherwise, you'll receive a warning email beforehand.
Show original
please explain to me the situation with backups on dedicated servers. Snapshots on virtual servers are quite simple, especially since (presumably) all your VMs run on Proxmox. I have a Proxmox server here at home. The snapshot function actually works really well.
For my dedicated servers, I am currently paying a lot of money for Acronis and their cloud for bare metal backups. If I can avoid all the Acronis hassle, I would switch immediately.
Therefore, the question of how you will implement the backup solution for dedicated servers.
Show original
Honest answer regarding the current status: Backup slots are available in ZapX for game servers, vServers, TeamSpeak, and Discord bots, snapshots for vServers. Currently, there is no dedicated backup function for dedicated servers in ZapX, so no bare-metal backup either. We cannot provide you with a timeline or a commitment regarding this.
If replacing your backup solution for the dedicated servers is the main reason for a switch, ZapX cannot take that over for you at the moment. You will continue to manage your backups for dedicated servers yourself for now, just like you do today. For your vServers, it's different; there you get backups and snapshots directly in the panel with the pass.
Show original
If there were a cheaper subscription in the future that only includes certain features, I would probably switch.
A modular subscription would be cool - choosing the features you need and paying more or less depending on that.
What I find really uncool and questionable is that lifetime servers are stopped/blocked when you cancel the subscription.
That's just not right, and because of that alone, I won't switch as long as it's set up this way!
For me, it would be completely fine if I couldn't use the new features anymore, but at least I could still use the server and start, stop, upgrade, or reinstall it rudimentarily via the panel - even with fewer functions than in the current old panel, but the basics must always be available!
As far as I'm concerned, the advanced features could then be released again only when you purchase a whole year's subscription - that way, you would stay fair and still avoid abuse (meaning people who only book for one month to quickly take advantage of all the features and then cancel right away when everything is set up).
Show original
To be honest about the current situation: There is no basic management in ZapX without a pass, and there's also no tier just with backups and hardware upgrades. A lifetime server only runs in ZapX with an active pass because the pass also pays for the operation on the new platform, including the moves to newer hardware. Without a pass, the server is locked, not deleted, and can be reactivated at any time with a pass. We understand that you still find this unfair. We cannot promise you a different model, but we appreciate your specific suggestion.
If you are doing the setup and maintenance yourself anyway, the previous customer panel remains a good choice: Your lifetime vServer continues there without a pass and without monthly costs, including starting, stopping, and reinstalling. Currently, there is no obligation to move. Just keep an eye on the activity check there.
Show original
I am writing this text for the second time because you simply have a character limit that doesn’t work properly.
Thanks for nothing.
I have a few problems that I would like to address. With this being my second time, I’m sure I will forget a few points...
1. The old panel is EOL. As everyone knows, products, etc. that are EOL always receive security updates for some time first. Who exactly guarantees me that I won’t have to migrate to ZapX after 1, 2, or more years?
2. What about the people who have absolutely no interest in the so-called great features? I can integrate AI myself. I don’t need an app. I do backups locally anyway, etc. You are forcing users to use something they don’t need or want. This is of course also from the perspective of new customers, as they have no choice.
3. Why exactly does a dedicated server have to be paid for separately when migrating? The power consumption was already there before? As far as I can see, ZapX users have only disadvantages with the migration of the dedicated server.
4. How does it work with VPS and the upgrade for people who stay on the old panel? Can they still upgrade their VPS without any problems, and will ZapX be forced upon them with an upgrade?
5. You say that a lifetime server still belongs to us. However, when migrating to ZapX, that looks very different, as you cannot access it without the ZapX pass that is behind the paywall. So you cannot access your property without ZapX.
6. What happens if I break the CPU on a dedicated server in the old panel? Or if the hard drive fails on a VPS? Will we still get a replacement as contractually agreed?
Thanks character limit, now I have to write this separately.
Show original
thank you for taking the time to write everything down a second time. We are sorry that your first text was lost when submitting. One step at a time:
1. Currently, there is no obligation to move. The existing customer panel will no longer receive new features, but will continue to receive security updates and bug fixes. Honestly, we cannot promise you more than this status here.
2. We understand that. You don't have to use the AI Assistant, the app, or the Discord bot in ZapX. And if none of this is useful to you, the existing panel is a good choice for you: Your lifetime servers will continue to run there without a pass and without monthly costs.
3. You are right about the power; your dedicated server has already consumed it. The dedicated lifetime slot in ZapX mainly covers these power costs of an entire machine, which is why it is not included in any pass tier. To be honest, there is currently no separate backup function for dedicated servers in ZapX either. If you don't miss anything there, there is no reason not to keep it in the existing panel.
4. Yes. Upgrades for servers that remain in the existing panel can currently be done as usual, without moving to ZapX. However, we cannot provide you with a fixed timeframe for this.
5. After a move, a lifetime server without a pass is locked, not deleted. Your data remains, and with a pass and a free slot, you can reactivate it at any time. We understand that this still doesn’t feel good. The move only happens if you initiate it yourself, and it is final.
6. You report hardware defects for servers in the existing panel as before via ticket to our support, who will take care of it as usual.
To make it clear: You can stay with your lifetime servers in the current panel without a pass and do not have to move. Just remember the activity check there and occasionally open the page of your servers in the customer panel.

7. I have 4 VPS, 1 Dedicated Server, and 1 Game Server. This means I would have to get Pro AND pay an additional 10 € per month, which would then be 20 €. Wouldn't it be better to offer existing customers a permanent discount to make it at least a bit more appealing?
I had more points, but due to the character limit, the entire message was deleted and I couldn't adjust it. There is a character limit that applies but then has another limit when sending.
Best regards

LG
Currently, there is no permanent discount for existing customers on the pass, and we cannot promise anything about that. But thank you for the suggestion. What is available now: You can pay for the pass up to 12 months in advance instead of every 30 days, and longer terms come at a discount.
Also, you don’t have to move everything at once. The migration happens per server, and all the others continue to run in the previous panel without a pass and without monthly costs. What exactly applies to the servers you choose will be shown to you by the migration assistant in ZapX before completion.
Regarding the character limit: A comment can be up to 2,000 characters long. It’s frustrating that your text was lost when submitting and that you couldn’t adjust it anymore. If you remember the other points, feel free to write them down here, and we will respond to them as well.

Since Lifetime VPS products on the old panel will no longer receive updates, will existing Lifetime VPS customers still receive IPv6 support? Or will IPv6 only be available to customers who migrate to the new panel?
If I choose not to migrate and keep my Lifetime VPS on the old panel, will IPv6 be provided to my existing server in the future?
The current Customer Panel no longer gets new features, only security updates and bug fixes. That's why we can't promise IPv6 for Lifetime VPS that stay in the old panel.
In ZapX it already works today: Lifetime VPS that are moved to ZapX now automatically get their own IPv6 /64 network, which you'll find in the dashboard under IP addresses. Keep in mind that the move is final, so a moved server can't go back to the old panel.
To be completely clear: you can stay on the current panel with your Lifetime VPS, without a Pass, and you are not obligated to move.
There is currently no size limit per backup slot. A slot holds one backup of the service, no matter how big it is. So in your example, a fully used 2 TB Lifetime VPS on Max could keep 5 backups of the whole server at the same time. Pro gives you 3 slots and Plus 1, and from Pro upwards the backups are also managed automatically.
Backups are created as snapshots of the running server and stored compressed on separate backup storage in our data center, not on your server's own disk. So they don't take away any of your disk space.
I mean, if someone wants to try it out, there’s really no way to continue using the service without further payment.
2. Is an upgrade of the Lifetime Servers still possible afterwards? Like RAM, more CPU cores?
3. Is it also possible to buy more storage space? You are currently limited to 960GB SSD storage. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I couldn't find a way to upgrade further.)
Show original
Also Arbeitsspeicher, mehr CPU-Kerne.
1. In ZapX, the pass not only pays for extras like the AI Assistant or backups, but also for the operation of your lifetime server on the new platform, including future migrations to newer hardware. That's why there is currently no option without a pass, and without a pass, the server will be locked. However, locked does not mean deleted: your data remains, and with a pass, you can reactivate it at any time. We understand your suggestion to just disable the pass features instead. To try it out, there is the early adopter bonus, which makes the pass free for a while at the start. However, the migration itself cannot be undone afterwards.
2. Yes. You can upgrade a migrated lifetime vServer in ZapX for CPU cores and RAM, paid once at the lifetime price. The server will restart once for the change. A downgrade is not possible with lifetime.
3. Yes, you can also expand the storage in ZapX in the same way, even beyond 960 GB.
To be completely clear: You can stay with your lifetime server in the current panel without a pass and do not have to migrate.

Discounts on other servers are not included in the ZapX Pass. The Pass covers your lifetime servers in ZapX, Plus 2, Pro 8, and Max as many as you want, and it includes backup slots for every service, the AI Assistant, and from Pro on, automatic backups and control via Discord.
The table in the article only shows how much cheaper a lifetime server with the Pass is compared to renting a similar server. However, there is a price advantage with the Pass itself: You can pay for it up to 12 months in advance, and longer terms are discounted.
And if you have lifetime servers: They continue to run in the previous customer panel without a Pass and without monthly costs.

I have a question: If I were to finalize the subscription and then, for example, decide against it after 4 months, can I still use the Lifetime Servers in the new old interface or will I no longer have the option to use the servers? Since the servers were still purchased as Lifetime, but then seemingly cannot be used/managed without an active subscription?
If that is the case, I personally find this step not good, because (at least for me) I got Lifetime Servers precisely so that there are no ongoing costs, and that would be gone just because I had once taken out an "additional subscription"....
Additional features through a subscription, sure, but taking away control over the Lifetime Server if one does not want to extend the subscription, I do not find good!

thank you for the honest question and your open opinion, we understand that well.
So that you know exactly what you're getting into: The move to ZapX is final. A moved server stays in ZapX and cannot return to the previous customer panel. If you cancel the pass later, your lifetime server in ZapX will be locked. However, it will not be deleted: Your data remains, the server remains yours, and as soon as you have a pass with a free lifetime slot again, you can reactivate it at any time. Only the IP address or the port may change.
Especially since ongoing costs are important to you, it’s worth weighing this calmly. You can also just move individual servers and leave the others in the previous panel.
To make it completely clear: You can stay with your lifetime servers in the current panel, without a pass and without monthly costs, and you do not have to move.

thank you for the question, we’re happy to clarify.
Currently, there is no obligation to move. The move is done per server: you decide for yourself which lifetime servers you bring to ZapX. All others continue to run in the previous customer panel without a pass and without monthly costs.
It is correct: servers that you move to ZapX only run there with an active pass. The pass applies to your entire account, not per server. By the way, for the dedicated server, you don't need a more expensive pass. Lifetime dedicated servers do not count towards the servers of your pass level, but receive an additional dedicated lifetime slot in ZapX on top of the pass, which primarily covers the power of the machine.
Important beforehand: A moved server remains in ZapX and cannot be returned to the old panel.
To make it perfectly clear: You can stay with your lifetime servers in the current panel without a pass and do not have to move.

You're right that the move is final at the moment: a server you move stays in ZapX and can't go back to the classic panel. We can't promise a way back, which is exactly why we'd rather you take your time than move in a hurry. You can also move just one server and keep the other one in the classic panel, and with the early-mover bonus the Pass is free for a while at the start, so you can get to know ZapX before paying anything. The move itself can't be undone, though.
Your idea of a way back after a price change is a fair suggestion, and others in this thread have asked for more flexibility too.
To be completely clear: you can stay on the classic panel with your Lifetime servers, without a Pass, and you are not obligated to move.
How many backups are kept depends on the slots of your tier, 3 per service on Pro and 5 on Max. When the slots are full, you can let ZapX delete the oldest backup automatically.
VPS work a bit differently: there you don't set a schedule yourself. ZapX runs one fixed daily backup in a nightly window, and its time can't be changed. On top of that you can create backups and snapshots by hand whenever you want, for example right before an update.
What we can say: if you pay the Pass in advance for a longer term, up to 12 months, the price you paid applies for that whole term, and longer terms come with a discount.
And there's no rush to decide. There is currently no obligation to migrate, and your Lifetime servers keep running in the current panel without a Pass.
Show original
no, the Dedicated Lifetime Slot alone is not enough in ZapX. It always comes in addition to an active pass, even if you are only moving Dedicated Servers. The smallest pass is Plus.
We completely understand that the lack of a return option is discouraging. Since the move is final, it's perfectly fine to decide against it. Your lifetime servers will continue to run in the existing customer panel without a pass and without monthly costs. Just keep in mind the activity check: Occasionally open your server page in the customer panel, otherwise you'll receive a warning email.
To be perfectly clear: You can stay with your lifetime servers in the current panel and do not have to move.
Show original
What you can do is share it: under Settings > Service Sharing you invite someone by email into a group and choose exactly what they are allowed to do with your server. How many groups and members you can have depends on your Pass tier, and a small group works even without a Pass.
So if the location of your Lifetime server matters to you, keep in mind that it stays where it is after the move as well. Thanks for asking, we know it's a common wish.
One thing to keep in mind, since you rarely need the panel: the Lifetime activity check still applies there. Open your server's page in the Customer Panel at least every three months. You'll get a warning email before anything happens.
I want to be just as honest as you and unfortunately have to say that "lifetime", plus a monthly fee, absolutely does not fit together for me ... This is really a bad habit with all the subscription models that have spread more and more in recent years, Adobe showed the way...^^ Personally, I have never missed all the new features, I don't need them and I never thought "It would be nice if, I would even pay for it...". The offer as it was fit me perfectly. Therefore, I would only find it fair: Existing customers should be able to migrate for free with their existing servers and not have to pay a fee. Just like many manufacturers of surveillance cameras or Google with its Pixel phones did back then: The 1st generation devices have lifetime free and unlimited cloud storage. Only devices bought later were charged for the cloud services. And the only advantage I see with ZapX is this annoying "having to log in every three months" - but for that, I've set a recurring appointment in my calendar, which saves me €60/year. And what happens if I quickly buy a third or future lifetime server today in a few weeks/months? They stay with Zap and ZapX is just an option? I haven't quite understood that so far ...
Show original
thank you for your honest feedback and the comparison with the cloud offerings, which is quite understandable.
Currently, there is no free transfer without a pass in ZapX. A lifetime server there only runs with an active pass; without a pass, it will be locked, not deleted. However, if you don't need the new features at all, the previous panel is exactly the right place for you: Your lifetime servers will continue to run there without a pass and without a monthly fee. With the calendar entry for the activity check, you are well set up, and you will also receive a warning email beforehand.
Regarding your question about new servers: You can still purchase lifetime servers in the previous customer panel, and they will remain there. ZapX is an option for them, not a requirement. However, we cannot guarantee how long lifetime servers will still be sold in the previous panel.
To make it perfectly clear: You can stay with your lifetime servers in the current panel and do not have to move.

-- English: --
The one-way street created here is the main reason why I will definitely not switch to ZapX. It is unacceptable to be forced into a continuous subscription just to use a server I already bought, otherwise it gets locked and unusable. This completely contradicts the core principle of "Lifetime". For the activity check in the old panel, I will simply make entries in my calendar. I am sticking with the legacy panel. It would be much better if expiring the pass only locked the new features, instead of the entire server.
Staying on the legacy panel is a completely valid choice. Your Lifetime server keeps running there without a Pass and without a monthly fee, and there is currently no obligation to migrate. The calendar reminder is a good idea, and you'll also get a warning email before the activity check locks anything.
You're right about how ZapX works today: there a Lifetime server needs an active Pass, and without one it gets locked, not deleted. Your idea of locking only the new features instead of the whole server has come up several times under this article, and we understand why. We can't promise a change, but it's clear feedback.
If I don't want to or can't pay, my server gets locked until payment.
So it's not a direct lifetime anymore, because then I have to pay monthly to use it.
Thus, the move is out of the question.
Again, pay-to-win in my eyes.
And for buyers, lifetime is not exactly nice to be asked to pay again.
There should be discounts for existing customers and also the option to use the server without further payments.
Show original
Wieder PaytoWin in meinen Augen.
thank you for your honest opinion. You are right: After a move, a lifetime server in ZapX only runs with an active pass. Without a pass, it will be locked until a pass with a free slot is available again, but it will not be deleted and your data will remain. We understand that this does not feel like a lifetime to you.
That’s exactly why the previous customer panel remains: There, your lifetime server continues without a pass and without ongoing costs, and currently, there is no obligation to move. There is currently no special discount for existing customers on the pass. However, those who pay for it in advance for longer periods, up to 12 months, pay less than if they pay every 30 days.
To be completely clear: You can stay with your lifetime server in the current panel and do not have to move.
Show original
If you really want people with life time servers to move over just allow them to do it without paying and have then have only 1 slot or something without all that extra fancy features so it is the most basic thing that someone actually needs the management page upgrade or downgrade of the lifetime server that is al we need atleast that is al i need and keep that ai discord mcp and whatever all locked for the payed thing and if someone stops paying then put it back the the basic things like i said above and if the person has more lifetime servers and payed the subscription let them choose which server they want to keep unlocked instead of random locking something
A basic version of ZapX without a Pass, with just the essentials like managing and upgrading your Lifetime server, doesn't exist at the moment. In ZapX the Pass also covers running your server on the new platform, not only the extras. The AI Assistant and the other features are included, but you never have to use them. Your idea of falling back to a basic mode instead of locking the server, and choosing yourself which server stays active, is fair feedback, though we can't promise a change.
If you're happy where you are, staying is the right call. Your Lifetime server and its data stay in the current panel without a Pass and without any fee, and there is currently no obligation to migrate. Just open your server's page in the Customer Panel every now and then because of the activity check.

good question. Your credit will not be transferred to ZapX, but it will not expire either. It remains in the previous customer panel, which is why you only see it there. You can continue to use it there, for example for invoices or upgrades of services that you haven't moved.
If the credit comes from real deposits and you no longer need it after the move, you can ask support if a refund is possible. Credit from bonuses or promotions is excluded from this.
Show original
gute Frage.

What’s important to us: Your lifetime server remains paid and continues to run in the existing customer panel, without a pass and without a monthly fee. The pass only comes into play if you decide to move to ZapX, covering what is new and incurs ongoing costs, such as the AI Assistant, backup storage, and the app. Whether that benefits you is entirely up to you.
Currently, there is no obligation to move. So you can calmly stay with your current panel.
Show original
Du kannst also ganz in Ruhe bei deinem jetzigen Panel bleiben.

That's exactly why the move is voluntary: It only happens if you start and confirm it yourself in the customer panel. Your two servers will continue to run in the previous panel, without a pass and without monthly costs. The panel won’t receive any new features, but it will still get security updates and bug fixes.
You understood correctly that a server in ZapX is locked without a pass (not deleted) and that the move is final. That’s why it’s good that you’re considering this carefully.
To be absolutely clear: You can stay with your lifetime servers in the current panel and do not have to move to ZapX. Just remember the activity check and open the page of your servers in the customer panel from time to time.

As far as I know, the Lifetime Dedicated Servers have only been available since 2023, and according to CBS, the Dutch statistics office, electricity prices for very large commercial consumers have actually decreased significantly since then:
2023: approx. €0.231/kWh
2024: approx. €0.131/kWh
2025: approx. €0.121/kWh
1st half of 2026: approx. €0.128/kWh
Of course, I don’t know exactly what ZAP pays for electricity in Eygelshoven, and there are certainly additional costs like cooling, network fees, data center costs, etc.
However, I would still be interested to know how exactly the statement about the increased energy costs is meant. Does it refer to a longer period before 2023, or is it generally about the operating costs of the Dedicated Servers?
Especially since the Lifetime Dedicated Servers have only been offered since around 2023, I found this a bit interesting.
Show original
We cannot disclose our specific electricity and data center costs here. However, the idea behind the Dedicated-Lifetime-Slot is independent of individual yearly values: A Dedicated Server is a whole machine that runs exclusively for you, 24/7. These ongoing costs arise anew every month, while the server itself has been paid for once. The slot in ZapX is primarily intended to cover these ongoing costs, which is why it is not included in any pass tier.
If ZapX doesn't bring you any benefits for your Dedicated Server: In the current customer panel, it continues to run without a slot, without a pass, and without monthly costs; moving is currently not mandatory.
Show original
No, your Lifetime server stays paid for. It keeps running in the current Customer Panel without a Pass and without any monthly fee. The ZapX Pass only applies if you decide to move to ZapX, our new platform, and it pays for what is new there and costs us money every day, like the AI Assistant, backup storage and the app.
There is currently no obligation to migrate. The move only happens if you start it yourself in the Customer Panel and confirm it.
To be completely clear: you can stay on the current panel with your Lifetime server, without a Pass, and you are not obligated to move.
I’ll stick with the old panel. Primarily, I need the panel to maintain the server, to be able to reinstall the image, and possibly to do a rescue.
For that, I’m not paying €4.99, sorry, I don't see the "added value". As for the AI, I don't know what it can do, but let's assume it's Claude, we’ll get a maximum of a "Hello" in the chat for €4.99.
Thanks, but no thanks, J1M.
Show original
If you mainly need the panel for maintenance, like reloading the image or booting into rescue mode, you are well taken care of in the current customer panel. Your lifetime server will continue to run there without a password and without a monthly fee. While no new features will be added there, security updates and bug fixes will still be provided.
Just a quick note on AI: The AI Assistant in ZapX is an option, not a requirement, and ZapX also offers things like backups per service and snapshots for virtual servers beyond that. Whether that's worth the password to you is entirely your decision. Currently, there is no obligation to move.
One more tip for the current panel: The activity check still applies for lifetime servers there. So, open your server's page in the customer panel from time to time; you'll receive a warning email before any suspension.

You say we dont pay a subscription for the server, yet if we do migrate and then miss a payment, or stop paying a monthly fee access to the lifetime product gets locked until we pay said fee again. Ergo our lifetime product is essential worthless without spending that monthly fee.
You say that the first period is free to let us test, but in reality migrating will already lock us into payments or the product we purchased becomes useless - so in essence the free migration is a bait to shut down lifetime servers of people that want to try it but cannot or will not pay the subscription fee.
The fact that you paywall a quality of life feature with the activity checks is just giving away why you structured this in this way.
you want to phase out lifetime products without any regular payment.
That in itself i can understand, you do afterall have ongoing costs, but if that is a problem dont offer lifetime services in the first place. By doing that you have already made a commitment to your customers, and now trying to go back on that is just not a good look.
You're right about how ZapX works today: there, a Lifetime server only runs with an active Pass. Without one it gets locked, not deleted, and you can reactivate it any time once you have a Pass with a free slot again. You're also right that the move is final, so the free period at the start doesn't make it risk free. Please only take that step if ZapX is really worth it for you.
What you bought stays as it is: your Lifetime server keeps running in the current panel without a Pass and without any monthly fee. The move only happens if you start it yourself in your Customer Panel and confirm it. That panel won't get new features anymore, but it still gets security updates and bug fixes.
Your point about the activity check is fair feedback, and we hear it.
To be completely clear: you can stay on the current panel with your Lifetime server, and there is currently no obligation to migrate.
If you have 50 small V-Servers (14.99), you have to pay less than for a dedicated server (4.99€ + 9.90€) (price/performance).
I would have to pay 9.99€ for 3 servers (3.33€ per server) while others with multiple servers, for example, 100 pieces (0.15€).
I think that's not properly balanced.
You want many people to use the new panel, right? But the offer is really trash. I would like to receive updates, but I'm not willing to spend that much money when I don't even use most of the features.
It would be nice if you could say that if you don't want a pass anymore, then all non-essential features like the console, FTP/file manager, on/off switch, up- and (down)grade functions can still be used, and then you have to go into the panel every 3 months additionally. (Just like the legacy panel, only with even fewer features, where you then have to use the file manager or console instead of the panel.)
Then it would be worth considering for me to switch.
If you want to use additional features, you can rent them.
Maintaining 2 panels in the long run is really expensive. A new Debian version that is incompatible with the panel, and depending on the situation, it can be a big effort to fix it if there is no alternative interface that doesn't require adjustments. (This has happened several times under Linux already.)
Moreover, the old versions no longer receive security updates after a few years.
Or offer others the possibility that if they don't want to pay monthly/yearly, then offer those people a high upgrade price as an alternative. (2 options instead of one.) (Without AI features that incur additional costs.)
I currently wonder why one should even downgrade to the new panel? Unfortunately, this is not an upgrade.

Regarding the pricing tier: The pass is valid for your entire account, not per server. Plus covers 2 lifetime servers, Pro 8, and Max an unlimited number. It makes sense that it appears more expensive with a few servers per server than with many.
Currently, there is no mode without a pass or a one-time upgrade fee. Your suggestions are still well thought out, thank you for that.
If you don't need the new features, you're well taken care of in the previous customer panel. Your lifetime servers continue to run there without a pass and without monthly costs, and currently, there is no obligation to move.

I also received my email the other day that my server would be ready for migration.
In the rest of the text, hardware upgrades are also mentioned. Back then, we decided on a root server with the "slower" CPU. In the meantime, we are noticing that there are indeed some issues with certain applications because of this. How would that look with the new subscription model? Can we then also purchase a CPU upgrade, or will it perhaps even be automatically upgraded when moving to the new model?
If I decide to start the trial period, and then it doesn't suit me after all, is it still possible to revert back to the old model? Because in other posts, it was stated that a subsequent switch back was not possible.
Thank you very much and best regards.

thank you for the specific questions.
Regarding the CPU: The move itself does not change anything on your server. It moves just as it is, with your data and your IP address. An automatic upgrade to a faster CPU is not included. In ZapX, you can add more cores, RAM, or storage for a one-time payment for a moved lifetime server.
About the trial period: No, you cannot go back to the old panel after the move, it is final. During the free period at the beginning, you pay nothing. If you cancel the pass, the server will be locked in ZapX, not deleted, and with a pass and an available slot, you can reactivate it anytime. Since the step is final, only take it if ZapX really convinces you.
And if not: Currently, there is no obligation to move. Your root server continues to run in the previous customer panel without a pass and without monthly costs.

Also you said "VPS work a bit differently: there you don't set a schedule yourself. ZapX runs one fixed daily backup in a nightly window, and its time can't be changed. On top of that you can create backups and snapshots by hand whenever you want, for example right before an update." - am I interpreting this correctly as there is no customizability in regards to how often for VPS? Would this also apply to servers running on UEFI mode?
And yes, you read that correctly: for VPS you don't set a schedule yourself, so you can't change how often or when the automatic backup runs. It's one fixed daily backup in a nightly window, and that's the same for UEFI servers. On top of that you can create backups and snapshots by hand whenever you like, for example right before an update or a bigger change.
1. How does a VPS restore work in ZapX: does it overwrite the running server in place, and does the server have to be stopped first?
2. Does a restore replace everything on the server as of the backup, including anything changed since the backup was taken?
3. Do manual backups and nightly automatic backups share the same 5 slots? If a server has 4 nightly backups and I take a manual one before an update, does that push the oldest nightly one out? (I might be confused on how this works for VPS)
4. Can a slot be pinned so automatic rotation never deletes it, for example a known-good baseline image?
5. Roughly how long does a restore take for a 200 GB to 1 TB Windows VPS? A range is fine.
6. Is the nightly backup a live snapshot while Windows is running, and does it use guest tools or VSS so the Windows filesystem is consistent?
7. If a nightly backup fails, is the account owner notified, and does the failed run consume a slot?
8. What time window do nightly VPS backups run in, per region (Los Angeles, Dallas, Ashburn, Eygelshoven)?
9. Can I see when the last successful backup of a server was taken, in the panel or the API?
10. Can a backup of one VPS be restored onto a different VPS, to clone a desktop or move it to another region?
11. Can backups be downloaded or exported, or are they restorable only within ZapX?
Restore (1, 2, 5): ZapX shuts the VPS down itself, restores the backup and starts it again, so you don't need to stop it first. The whole server goes back to the state of the backup, so everything changed since then is lost. If a restore fails, the old server is started again unchanged. We can't give you a reliable duration for 200 GB to 1 TB, it depends on the size and load, and the server is offline during the restore.
Slots (3, 4): The nightly backups don't use the 5 slots. On Max, the newest 14 successful nightly backups are kept separately and rotate on their own. The 5 slots are shared only by manual backups and snapshots, so a manual backup before an update doesn't push out a nightly one. Manual backups aren't rotated away while your Pass is active; when all 5 slots are full, a new one is refused until you delete one. There's no extra pin option, but a manual backup works as your baseline.
Windows (6): The nightly backup is a live snapshot while Windows keeps running. For a consistent file system it relies on the QEMU guest agent inside Windows, which uses VSS, so it's worth having it installed.
Failures (7): A failed run doesn't use a slot and never deletes an older good backup, and it shows up as failed in the backup list. There's no email for a failed nightly backup at the moment.
Timing (8, 9): The window is currently the same for all regions, roughly 02:00 to 06:00 UTC, and each server has its own fixed time inside it, shown on the backup card together with the last and next run. The panel list and the public API show the status and completion time of every backup.
Clone and export (10, 11): Not possible at the moment. A backup can only be restored onto the same VPS, and VPS backups can't be downloaded because they are complete server images.
If you move a VPS from the current panel, its boot mode stays exactly as it is, so a server that already runs with UEFI keeps it. On UEFI servers you'll also find a vTPM 2.0 toggle in the VPS settings, which you can switch while the server is stopped.
Also keep in mind that Lifetime servers in ZapX run together with a ZapX Pass. If you move an existing Lifetime VPS, you don't pay for it again: the move has no upgrade fee, and your data, IP and Lifetime term come along.
There is currently no obligation to migrate. The move to ZapX only happens if you start and confirm it yourself in the Customer Panel.
If you'd still like to ask about a refund, please get in touch with our support directly, since we can't discuss individual accounts here in the comments.
One tip for the current panel: Lifetime servers there still have the activity check, so open your server's page in the Customer Panel every now and then. To be completely clear: you can stay on the current panel with your Lifetime server, without a Pass, and you are not obligated to move.
If I read it correctly, the Lifetime Server goes down without a subscription?
I just want it to keep running :D
Show original
If you just want your server to keep running, that can be done completely without a subscription: In the previous customer panel, it continues without a pass and without monthly costs. Currently, there is no obligation to migrate; it only happens if you start and confirm it yourself.
Show original
For the Lifetime VPS you already own, the ZapX Lifetime prices don't change anything: when you move it, you don't pay for the server again, there's no upgrade fee, and your data, IP and Lifetime term come along. The ZapX Lifetime prices only come into play if you buy a new Lifetime server or an upgrade there, and the price that applies is the one the ZapX configurator shows at checkout.
What you pay on an ongoing basis after a move is the Pass. Before you confirm the move, the migration assistant shows you which tier fits the servers you select and what will be charged after the free period.
We can't reach out by email or panel message from here, which is why we answer in the comments. There is currently no obligation to migrate, so you can take all the time you need to compare.
I need a server that I can access remotely, and that's it. No fancy AI and stuff.
Backup is not an argument, that was already included with 10GB before and should still be.
Otherwise, I think it's great that you're developing your service (optionally) further. I'm sure there are many who will be happy about it *thumb up*
Show original
To your question: For your lifetime server, the pass is not mandatory. It will continue to operate in the existing customer panel, without a pass and without monthly costs. Currently, there is no obligation to migrate; the pass only comes into play if you move your server to ZapX yourself. And even there, the AI Assistant is an option, not a requirement.
We understand your point about the backups; that is a fair objection.
One more tip: In the existing panel, the activity check still applies for lifetime servers. So, open your server's page in the customer panel from time to time, as you will receive a warning email before any suspension.
Show original
But you turn live-time servers into live-time storage! If you don’t pay, the server doesn’t work anymore!
Could you additionally offer an alternative to the subscription? Like a basic upgrade per server that only includes the necessary panel functions with activity checks like currently? So without a subscription.
And then maybe a lite subscription that costs 10€ or so per year to disable the activity check (this doesn’t prevent the lock if no upgrade is available). The other subscriptions can still be made to use the optional panel features.
Without an upgrade and without a pass, the server will be locked (one of these must be purchased).
If you have a monthly pass (not yearly) and an upgrade, the AI tokens should be limited due to abuse.
The upgrade should compensate for the low cost of the subscription and shouldn’t cost x€, but the server should become more expensive by a factor like with the game servers with the CPU.
So I would buy an upgrade and then pay for a lite subscription if I know that I don’t necessarily need it / don’t have any more money, and the server keeps running if I keep checking in the panel.
Also, it would be possible for dedicated servers to no longer cost an additional 10€, but instead require, for example, 10 server slots, making it easier. It would also be good if unlimited didn’t just cost 15€, but 30€ or so, with additional subscriptions in between for more server slots. Perhaps unlimited server slots only come with a certain number of dedicated servers included?
Did I forget anything? Could such a subscription theoretically be introduced?
Currently, there is no such subscription; I actually want to upgrade to the new panel, but the new one feels like a downgrade as it is right now.
Yes, I could stay with the old panel, but I hate the verification.

Aber man macht aus Live-Time Server Live-Time Speicher!
Also ohne abbo.
To be honest about the current situation: There is no one-time base upgrade without a subscription, no cheap Lite subscription only against the activity check, and we can't commit to such a model either. In ZapX, there is a lifetime server with a pass that applies to your entire account, and there is no more activity check there.
We understand that the check in the old panel is annoying for you. There, it’s enough to occasionally open your server's page in the customer panel, and you will receive a warning email before a lock occurs. Currently, there is no obligation to move, so you can take your time to decide whether ZapX is worth the pass for you at some point.
And if you’d like: Feel free to write about which specific features you are missing in the new panel so that it doesn’t feel like a downgrade for you.
Show original

You heard right: In the old panel, VPS had a traffic limit of 33 TB per month, while in ZapX it is 20 TB per month. This applies equally to all VPS in ZapX, whether rented or Lifetime. You will receive a notification at 80 percent. If the limit is exceeded, the bandwidth will be throttled until the next monthly period begins, but your server will continue to run.
As for the why: In ZapX, we have set the traffic volume new and uniformly for all VPS, instead of adopting the values from the old panel. If you need more, you can specifically book an additional traffic package.
Show original

Please revisit and give us an option to either go back or to just pay the dedicated slot at a low(er) price or something, right now, if you do like me (or in general as most people have discussed here paying to continue to use something we've already paid for) we are SOL...
To be honest about where things stand: the move to ZapX is final, so a moved server can't go back to the classic panel, and we can't promise a way back. In ZapX a Dedicated Lifetime slot always comes on top of an active Pass. The slot mainly covers the power of a whole machine that runs just for you, which is why it isn't part of any Pass tier. Your Lifetime server itself stays paid for, and if you end the Pass it is locked, not deleted: your data stays, and you can reactivate it whenever you have a Pass with a free slot again.
Your wish for a way back or a cheaper option for dedicated servers is fair feedback, and others in this thread have asked for more flexibility too. We can't promise a different model, though.
For any Lifetime servers you haven't moved: they keep running on the current panel without a Pass, and there is currently no obligation to migrate.
For me, it’s therefore not an upgrade.
But it would be worth considering if I could combine my Vserver and my TeamSpeak server and then have a subscription that I could subscribe to every 5 or 10 years.
(10€ monthly is too much for 3 servers)
Show original
That’s exactly why the previous customer panel remains: Your Lifetime servers will continue to run there without a Pass and without a monthly fee, and currently, there is no obligation to move. Just keep in mind the activity check.
There is currently no Pass available with a duration of several years in a row, and we can't commit to such a model either. Thank you nonetheless for the idea; it clearly shows that for customers with a few servers, a long, predictable duration would be more interesting than an ongoing amount.
Show original

We cannot answer questions in the blog comments regarding how contracts are legally secured in the long term. That would be a binding legal statement, and we do not provide that here. Therefore, your comments with this question were not published. For questions about your contract, you can contact us directly at legal@zap-hosting.com.
Regarding your other question about why there is no free basic management in ZapX: There, the pass not only pays for extras like AI or backups but also for the operation of your server on the new platform, including migrations to newer hardware. That's why there is no free tier there.
And as for the current status: Currently, there is no obligation to migrate. Your lifetime vServer continues to run in the previous customer panel without a pass and without monthly costs, and the panel will continue to receive security updates and bug fixes.

We can't give you a fixed upgrade rhythm or a way to track the host hardware of a single server here. What we can say in general: in its own data centers ZAP-Hosting runs servers on dual AMD EPYC processors. In ZapX the Pass also pays for operating your Lifetime server on the new platform, including moves to newer hardware over time.
Moving a Lifetime VPS to ZapX doesn't upgrade it automatically. It moves as it is, with your data and IP address. If you need more power afterwards, you can add CPU cores, memory or storage to a moved Lifetime VPS in ZapX for a one-time payment.
And if you'd rather not move: your Lifetime VPS keeps running on the current panel without a Pass, and there is currently no obligation to migrate.
I have to honestly say that I am really excited about the renewal! The new design looks great and the new features make a really good impression. You can tell that you have put a lot of thought into the further development.
I have been a customer with you for a very long time and have rented various servers from you in the past. At some point, I decided on a lifetime server – and looking back, that was definitely one of the best decisions I could have made.
However, there is one point that I see a bit critically: Why is an additional paid subscription required for lifetime servers in the new panel, even though I have already purchased my server once as a lifetime version?
Personally, I would find it much more attractive if you would offer lifetime customers the option to unlock the new panel for a one-time, reasonable fee – and this unlocking would then also be permanent, i.e., lifetime.
I think that would be a fair solution and certainly interesting for many other lifetime customers as well.
As it is currently arranged, I unfortunately cannot come to terms with taking on additional monthly or yearly costs, even though I consciously chose a lifetime offer back then.
Nevertheless, I want to emphasize once again that I really like your innovations and I truly appreciate your work.
Best regards

We can fully understand your criticism. You consciously chose the lifetime option, and ongoing costs don't fit into that picture at first. To clarify why a pass is needed in ZapX: Your lifetime server itself remains paid. The pass covers the ongoing operation on the new platform in ZapX, including migrations to newer hardware, and also what incurs costs every day, such as AI, app, backups, and integrations. It applies to your entire account, not just to a single server. That's why we opted for a recurring fee instead of a one-time activation.
Thank you nonetheless for your suggestion of a one-time lifetime activation; that's a reasonable thought.
And just to be clear: Currently, there is no obligation to migrate. You can stay on the previous panel without a pass and without monthly costs. The panel will continue to receive security updates and bug fixes, and a migration to ZapX will only happen if you initiate and confirm it yourself.
Show original
